This is a Linux based DVD player primarily intended for use with the Creative PC-DVD Dxr2 hardware decoder, although exporting to files is also possible.
It is a near-complete rewrite of the original dvdplay program by several people including Andrew de Quincey, Lucien Murray-Pitts and Andrew Veliath.
The program has been entirely restructured, with far better stability and many enhancements, including the use of Thomas Mirlacher's IFO parser, libifo, currently the most complete free IFO parser available.
As of this release the work is not complete. Only the command-line based test program works properly. The experimental-quality XMMS plugin is included in this release, but you will need to sort out compiling it yourself, as it is not yet covered by the automake scripts. There are also quite a few bugs remaining, mostly with the overlay system, which is not really finished yet.
This release features a small fix to the overlay system which may make it work properly for more people.
In order to use this program fully, you will need a working Dxr2 card installed, with drivers already set up for the older dvdplay program. You can get these at this site. I recommend you have the latest ones, since I've only tested with those. Later releases will probably have better documentation to describe how to get them installed.
Please send any comments, bug reports and complaints you may have to me. I'm hoping to be able to put up new releases every week or so.
Note: you don't need to be root to run this, unlike the earlier Dxr2 players, but you do need to be root to install it.
